About Gusto

Gusto is a modern, online people platform that helps small businesses take care of their teams. On top of full-service payroll, Gusto offers health insurance, 401(k)s, expert HR, and team management tools. Today, Gusto offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York serve more than 200,000 businesses nationwide.

Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto. That’s why we’re committed to building a collaborative and inclusive workplace, both physically and virtually. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy.

This specific role is for our insights and reporting team. Gusto stores a lot of important data related to payroll, benefits, and employee information. Generating reports is a core workflow that our customers want to perform in order to understand, act, and make decisions about their company. This problem is complex! You’ll succeed in this role if you excel at untangling complex data, and have an eye for making large amounts of information easily accessible and understandable.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Conducting research to understand our customer’s needs and inform design solutions
  • Designing easy-to-use flows and experiences that delight our customers
  • Work within the design system, and also push the design system for your UI/UX needs
  • Provide and seek feedback from other designers to push the quality bar
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, and copywriters to create, launch, and improve user experiences across the product

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience designing end to end product experiences, working with cross functional partners, and iterating on features
    • Strong UI, UX, and visual design skills, with a passion for design
    • Experience designing and shipping complex products that customers love
  • Optimistic maker attitude, with a desire to solve problems through design and iteration
  • Good storytelling and communication skills, mixed with an enthusiasm for collaboration
  • Industry experience with the whole design and development process, from brainstorming to post-launch research
  • Personal alignment with Gusto’s mission and the impact we can have on the world
  • Experience in data analysis and visualization is a plus.

At Gusto, we strive to provide rewards that empower employees to achieve their financial and personal goals. We offer competitive compensation packages with a strong emphasis on equity based compensation (ownership in Gusto). To learn more about Gusto’s compensation philosophy and benefits offerings please view our Total Rewards Approach page.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $150,000 to $178,00/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $163,000 to $216,000/yr in San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.
