Reimagine the infrastructure of cancer care within a technology and science community that values integrity, inspires growth, and is uniquely positioned to create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem.

We’re looking for a Lead Design Technologist to lead our Design Systems Initiative and help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Are you ready to be the next changemaker in cancer care?

What you’ll do

You’ll be leading our Design Systems team and will have the opportunity to help define how Flatiron products and tools should work, no matter who the end users are. You will help level up the way designers and engineers work together and help evolve our Design System into a core part of our software toolkit. Your team’s work will enable product teams to rapidly prototype new ideas and create high-quality user-facing applications that focus on usability, consistency, and accessibility. You will work with designers and engineers across the organization to help define front-end best practices for scalable and reliable code that touches the lives of millions of cancer patients. In addition, you’ll also:

  • Communicate and prioritize Design Systems work that has the greatest impact across our product suite, continually shaping our backlog
  • Mentor and manage other Design Technologists on the team
  • Partner with Designers, Design Technologists, and Engineers to understand user needs across interfaces, with a focus on ways in which we can deliver scalable and reusable solutions that can be impactful across projects, delivering interaction patterns that reflect the Flatiron brand
  • Contribute and manage the centralized Design System through guidelines, documentation, process, and code reviews
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop and evolve our standards for high-quality front-end code
  • In partnership with the Product Design and Brand Design teams, shape the holistic vision of user interfaces in Flatiron products with an eye towards consistency, flexibility, and scalability
  • Design, prototype, and test UI components that solve for a wide variety of use cases in a consistent and flexible way
  • Improve designer workflows by managing shared tools and libraries and creating more efficient processes
  • Write new and refactor existing components that are modular, extensible, testable, and accessible

Who you are

You would describe yourself as a hybrid designer who codes, or a front-end engineer who understands and evangelizes design principles. You are able to generalize user behavior to create a scalable system of interactions that can be used by many types of applications. You enjoy working in Figma and in code to explain your thinking. You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You’re a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact.

  • You have prior experience working on a design systems team or as an influential contributor to a company’s design system
  • You have mentored or managed others with a desire to help uplevel their critical thinking and ability to prioritize and deliver work effectively and efficiently
  • You are a systems thinker, with an appetite to dig into complex UI problems and an ability to break them down into small, modular pieces
  • You have the ability to design UI that is simple and usable yet flexible enough to serve a variety of use cases
  • You have deep expertise in design collaboration tools and managing shared design resources in a tool such as Figma
  • You have an understanding of clean, modern web markup in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and experience with front-end frameworks like React
  • You are an excellent communicator, capable of presenting your ideas clearly and in the context of user behavior and technical sustainability
  • You value outcome over output and understand the role of an iterative, collaborative design process to measure progress toward solving cross-platform problems.

If this sounds like you, you'll fit right in at Flatiron.
