Description

What started as the result of a hackathon in 2014 is now the world’s #1 social media management platform. Later was built on the idea that social media management should be easy, quick, and affordable. Our mission is to help small businesses and entrepreneurs create and grow their businesses online. Nine years and millions of users later, we’re still going strong.

We’re looking for people who can help us build something great for our customers—from content writers, designers to developers. So if you’re the kind of person who really cares about making something meaningful, then keep reading.

User Experience at Later

We're a close-knit UX team made up of Product and Content Designers with diverse backgrounds. We’re embedded in product teams and partner with our Product Managers, Engineers, and UI Designers at every stage of the process. We work purposefully when it comes to our growth as a team and individuals. It's important to us that we have a collaborative and supportive environment where we practice humility and lend a helping hand where we can. We challenge ourselves to set a high bar on design and for the product experiences we create.

What you will be doing

Later places a uniquely high value on UX. The user experience of our product is recognized as one of our core market advantages. For this reason, our Staff Designers have the opportunity for significant impact on the product and across the broader company.

Our Staff Designers don’t typically have direct reports, though they often have formal 1:1 mentorship roles with others within the team. They’re the advocates for UX quality and consistency, and work with the UX Managers to raise the bar for what we create.

The tasks of Staff UX Designers vary. At times you’ll focus on delivering high-priority, high-stakes project work as an individual contributor. At times you’ll pair with other Designers to help them take their work to the next level. And at other times you’ll focus on the future of the product, partnering with other product leaders to shape a user-centric product strategy.

Responsibilities

You’ll balance your time between the following responsibility areas.

Vision and Strategy

  • Advocate for a future vision of where you see our business creating the most value for our users, and owning the strategic direction for your working areas
  • Collaborate to define OKRs (objectives, key results) and the roadmap for one of Later’s largest strategic focuses to differentiate the product offering in the competitive landscape

Design Excellence and Process

  • Provide critique in design reviews and help team members to improve their craft
  • Help define and iterate upon our UX processes
  • Ensure the design team is up to date with the latest tools and trends

Tactical Execution

  • Work on large complex design problems that span multiple product areas and ensure UX efforts are aligned with the business
  • Working with our user research team, design and participate in studies, assist with synthesis to provide insights, and understand our event data to support design decisions

Team Leadership

  • Actively mentor multiple members of the UX team
  • Support with defining the overall vision and structure of the UX team
  • Participate in and fostering a healthy design team culture
